Bringing the Olympic Spirit Back to Provo!

Updated: Dec 1, 2023

As your Mayor, I'm overjoyed to share that the International Olympic Committee has officially named Salt Lake City as the preferred host for the 2034 Winter Olympics and Paralympics! This means we're one step away in our bid to bringing the Olympic spirit back to our city.

As many of you remember, back in 2002, Provo played a crucial role in the Winter Olympics. Our very own Peaks Ice Arena was a bustling hub, hosting key hockey events and welcoming athletes and spectators from around the globe. Those games were more than just a sporting event; they were a celebration of global unity, athleticism, and the enduring spirit of the Olympic movement. The Peaks Ice Arena is not just a facility; it's a symbol of our community's capacity to host world-class events and an embodiment of our love for winter sports.

The selection of Salt Lake City for the 2034 Winter Olympics opens up a realm of exciting possibilities for Provo. It's an opportunity for us to showcase our city once again on an international stage, to highlight our unique culture, and to demonstrate our exceptional hospitality.

Stay tuned for more updates as we progress on this exhilarating path to the 2034 Winter Olympics. Let’s make history together!
