Recycling 101

Do you want to recycle but feel confused about what you can and can’t put in that blue can? If you’re not careful, you can end up doing more damage by trying to recycle things that shouldn’t be.

To help simplify things, here’s a list of things you DON’T recycle:

  • cartons covered in wax

  • paper towels

  • aluminum foil

  • styrofoam

  • glass

  • motor oil

  • insecticides

  • garbage

Always make sure recycled items are clean and free of food and grease. Simply rinse out those plastic milk and juice jugs with running water before committing them to the blue receptacle.

We were told my materials management that we should not waste water in rinsing our recycled items. The confusion is what often keeps people from recycling. I love that we have a place we can recycle glass, how about one for plastic bags?

Remember that glass CAN be recycled, but not in the blue household bins. Glass recycling is located in the City Hall parking lot.
