Provo’s newly redesigned Timpanogos Golf Club was the backdrop for Provo City’s first Advantage Economic Summit where we hosted more than 150 economic development professionals, with each of the 18 holes showcasing an economic hole host highlighting the “Provo Advantage.”
Developing Provo’s best future requires a competitive and collaborative approach. Our economic summit represented both as we took eighteen holes to share what sets Provo apart with those who will help us achieve our community vision. Provo City continues to set the standard for economic growth, with experts referring to us as “The Central Business District of Utah County.”

Provo was named the 2021 best-performing city by the renowned Milken Institute, who highlighted our strengths in job, wage, and high-tech GDP growth. Our many rankings, along with the momentum seen in new development and heightened interest is being called, “The Provo Advantage.”
So what exactly is “The Provo Advantage”? Let me share just a few of the things that make Provo such an economically vibrant city:
Provo has been recognized nationally in 2020/21 for being an outstanding city:
#1 Top Performing City (Milken Inst.)
#1 Safest City (MoneyGeek)
#1 Youngest City (porch.com)
#1 Most Charitable City (Smart Assist)
#3 Best Run City (Wallet Hub)
And the national awards just keep coming:
Provo is the downtown or Central Business District for Utah County, the fastest growing county in the fastest growing state in the nation. It is the center for education, medical, government, hospitality, and transportation for the entire County.
Provo is the only community in Utah County with a thriving, livable downtown—with over 70 restaurants in the downtown area, a four-star hotel and 2 convention centers. Over 1000 multi-family dwelling units have been built in the past 3 years or are under construction / planned.
Provo has been and continues to be the innovation hub for the entire area. From the early days of WordPerfect and Novell, to the many spinoffs of those companies, to the current setting where dozens of start-up companies are in Provo setting the stage for the next wave of innovation and advancement. The constant flow of highly educated, high-quality employees flowing from BYU and UVU will keep Provo at the forefront of innovation.
Momentum continues to build as others recognize the many advantages that Provo offers. There are 250,000 sf of class A office under construction, several high-end multi-family housing projects are under construction, the Provo Airport is being expanded, a new 100,000sf City Hall will open in 2022, and the redevelopment of the old City Hall site will soon begin.
Community Builders Wanted
Abraham Lincoln said, “The best way to predict the future is to create it yourself.” Developing Provo’s best future requires a competitive and collaborative approach. Our economic summit represents both as we took eighteen holes to share what sets Provo apart with those who will help us achieve our community vision.
At the Economic Summit, we were able to showcase Provo’s many advantages and build connections and relationships that will continue to make Provo economically vibrant! Check out some of the ways Provo is #EconomicallyVibrant on provoconnect.com/economically-vibrant-1.
