It’s easy to brag about Provo and the quality of life we have here. We are consistently recognized nationally for our economy, well-being, and as a beautiful place to live with unbelievable recreational opportunities. Not only are we surrounded by spectacular mountains and beautiful landscapes but our residents are amazing.
Our city is full of hardworking, intelligent, and talented people. We are also a compassionate community. Every year we receive national rankings for being first in the country for charitable giving and volunteerism and last year was no exception!
To highlight our amazing community, I've selected my favorite Provo rankings from 2020:
#1 Place Where Americans Give the Most to Charity
Our city is amazing! We have a supportive community and neighbors who help and watch out for each other. Others have recognized this on social media and, more recently, in a study by SmartAsset. I am so proud and honored to be the mayor of Provo. Our citizens are some of the very best! (SmartAsset, November 2020)
#2 Best Performing City
As mayor, I'm thrilled to see that Provo has been ranked #2 for Best-Performing City in the Nation! The citizens of Provo should be proud - from our startup companies and established businesses to educational institutions and everyone that supports them. (Milken Institute; February 2020)
#2 Most Confident City in the Country Based on Workforce
Provo has been ranked the second-most confident city in the country based on workers’ job security, financial situation, and career outlook!
Provo is catching the rising wave in a lot of different ways! We've got some very fast-growing companies that are indigenous, and we've also got a lot of the larger coastal tech companies realizing that having a Provo base of operations has a strong advantage.
Provo being so close to nature allows for a variety of recreation options, which allowed residents to not feel as confined to their homes or apartments as people in metropolitan areas. This often overlooked aspect was a key factor in determining people’s mental health and attitudes, as well. (LinkedIn, Ocotober 2020)
#3 Best-Run City
Creating a great city is a team sport. It requires nonprofits. It requires the educational sector. It requires forward-looking business women and men who strive to be good neighbors. And, not least, it requires engaged citizens who roll up their sleeves and get to work, not only in providing for themselves and families, but also with an eye toward the greater good. Provo has each of these assets in abundance. To each person who has touched Provo in any way, I extend my heartfelt congratulations for helping our city achieve another monumental recognition. (WalletHub, July 2020)
#3 Most Dynamic Metropolitan
Provo has been ranked #3 Most Dynamic Metropolitan by Heartland Forward! Provo has become an entrepreneurship haven. Over the last two decades, the region has experienced phenomenal technology sector growth building on STEM talent graduating from Brigham Young University. The tech boom has attracted new residents to the region and supports an expansion of advanced manufacturing around technology components. The result has been one of the fastest GDP growth rates in the country. (Heartland Forward, December 2020)
One of the top 10 cities in the U.S. to move to right now
According to Curbed, Provo is one of the top 10 cities in the U.S. to move to right now. Provo is a rising tech center, part of Utah’s Silicon Slopes scene that’s the envy of smaller cities across the country. We've seen a 20 percent job growth, especially in the tech sector, and we have a booming, well-educated millennial population. That’s a boon for creatives like designers and video editors, who will find themselves in high demand at new startups.
For tech-savvy workers, Provo offers great talent, job opportunities aplenty, and housing costs for a fraction of what you’d find in Silicon Valley. (Curbed, February 2020)
#13 Most Educated City in America
Provo has been ranked as one of the most educated cities in America by WalletHub! Their main findings also ranked Provo with the 4th highest percentage of high school diploma holders in the nation and the 2nd highest percentage of Associates Degree holders in the nation. Research shows that a skilled and educated workforce provides a significant boost to the economy. (WalletHub, July 2020)
