I had the opportunity to join our state legislatures at the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy here in Provo. I was able to spend a day in the life of a firefighter and it was an amazing experience. I got to wear their protective turnout gear, use auto extrication tools, enter a building full of smoke, participate in rescue drills, and test out their emergency apparatus driving simulator. These drills and demonstrations were stressful, required lots of hard work, and pushed my limits.
Getting to experience first-hand what it's like to respond to a rescue call has given me the utmost respect and admiration for firefighters. They are highly skilled, extensively trained, and well prepared for their job. I am so impressed with what our firefighters do.
I was also able to get a better understanding of what the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy does for all fire departments throughout the state of Utah. This program is second to none and I am so proud of our Fire Department. Thank you Chief Miguel for this unique opportunity!
